Today I would like to talk about coffee drinking. Coffe drinking is a habit shared among many of us. Even though it is known for a number of negatives, coffee drinking is not a pure negative drink habit. Very often benefits of this drink are omitted and therefore I would like to enumerate some of them.
According to Donald Hensrud, Mayo Clinic preventive medicine specialist, coffee is usually associated with heart disease and cancer issues. However, according to recent studies there is no connection between coffee and an increased risk of cancer and disease. Two or more cups of coffee a day can increase the risk of heart disease in people with a specific and fairly common genetic mutation that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Therefore the negatives of coffee drinking depend mostly on how quickly one metabolizes coffee. Furthermore, heavy caffeine use can cause problems such as restlessness, anxiety, irritability and sleeplessness.
As for benefits of coffee, it protects against Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes, liver cancer and in addition to all these benefits it has a high level of antioxidants. Therefore it is not very harmful and has a substantial number of benefits.
Overall, coffee lacks healthy nutrients and can lead to negatives if consumed in high amounts but does provide benefits for our health and therefore it is impossible to determine whether coffee is a health – oriented drink or not really.
